The SHREK pinball machine's main feature is Donkey's mini-playfield, a small pinball playfield that sits in the upper right hand corner. It has mini-flippers that the player controls with the regular flipper buttons when the game is in 'Donkey mini-playfield' mode. The mini-playfield has ramps and targets to shoot at while an actual Donkey figurine spins in front of the mini-playfield. The game has popular pinball mechanical features including a spinning disk in the playfield center, captive ball, drop targets, and ramps. The artwork itself features 20 players from 20 current NBA teams. A main feature of the pinball is the basketball backboard with magnet. When the player shoots a basket, the magnet holds the ball momentarily and then drops it toward the basket. Players can shoot for a basket from different locations which aim to reflect real basketball moves. There is a jump shot, made when the ball goes up a plastic ramp and circles just below the basket; a free throw shot, where the ball is thrown 12 inches (30 centimeters) through the air to the basket; and also another ramp shot off the flippers aimed at the basket.
